"The fear of the Lord is the beginning (margin = principal part)
of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction" Prov 1:7

" A wise man will hear and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsel." Prov 1:5

"Wise men lay up knowledge: but the mouth of the foolish is near destruction." Prov 10:14

"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; and the knowledge of the holy is understanding." Prov 9:10

"My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shall be no priest to me; seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children." Hos 4:6
(very sobering warning I would think)

(even Solomon says:)
"For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow." Ecc 1:18
(so knowledge often brings with it sorrow. But the end rewards are certainly worth it I would think. The wonder of it all. you are in for the ride of your life as you uncover the mysteries of the pages of your Bible and history. Guaranteed!!

I Thes 5:21
"Prove all things; hold fast that which is good."

(We should find out the truth. Not just accept blindly what we are told. Why do you observe the customs that you do? Why do you believe what you believe? Because someone told you or do you know for sure? By searching the pages of your Bible and knowing history. Or is it merely all tradition? And what does God think of it all?)
